After a nuclear apocalypse, Earth becomes inhabitable.. Special suits and masks are needed to breath outside.
This asphyxiating situation is the one that I want to transmit with this nuclear investigation facility settled in the middle of a Spanish desert.
Just like “the thing” reproduces itself through cell copy, my design reproduces itself through its hexagonal shape. This hexagonal shape, reinforced with an hexagonal logo, can be found in every single corner of the set: from the floor plan to the switches.
I have designed the set thinking in the possibility of filming in a circular process, or a sequence shot.
All the spaces are made with the same materials to emphasize the concept of repetition. The only elements that allow us to see outside are the ceiling windows and central skylines with orange glass, which filter the light accentuating the orange hue emanating from the apocalyptic exterior.
My “thing” concept is a snake that has come inside the facility through its access module (the only one that reaches the ground, as it is an elevated structure). The scientists had an owl . This owl is the first to get infected, and so it begins…
000 :: LOCATION
The scientific research facility rests in a Spanish desert called “Las Bardenas Reales”. It has oddly shaped mountains that reminds us of the surface of Mars, which helps the feeling of a strange new world outside.
After the nuclear explosion all the planets have moved, so now we can see different ones on the sky.
