Set designed for a Kingston University project: a new production of HG Wells ‘The Time Machine’ , to be directed by Jean- Pierre Jeunet (City of lost Children, Delicatessan). As it is to focus more on the future the working title is ‘Land of the Eloi’.
I designed some of the elements of the Time Traveller’s house which are described in the book. I toke special care to choose an architecture design that reflects the scale of the house, which is substantial. It is located in London and I got my design inspirations in the area around Holborn.
I understand the house as the “time machine”, which means that the time travel starts as soon as you open the door. There is a straight line (symetrical) that cross the house from the entrance towards the laboratory.
SUMARY
“A group of men, including the narrator, is listening to the Time Traveller discuss his theory that time is the fourth dimension. The Time Traveller produces a miniature time machine and makes it disappear into thin air. The next week, the guests return, to find their host stumble in, looking disheveled and tired. They sit down after dinner, and the Time Traveller begins his story…”
